Under the direction of Susan K. Horst and Chris Nelson, presented two "Spring Fantasy" concerts at The Resort at Squaw Creek, May 2 and 3, 2009.
The Chorus was accompanied by the Diablo Valley College Philharmonic Orchestra from Pleasant Hill, California. The orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Owen Lee, performed Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev. Debbie Cole narrated a localized script "Pete and the Coyote."
The combined Chorus and orchestra performed choruses and arias from Verdi’s "Brindisi" La Traviata and Il Trovatore; Mozart’s Don Giovanni; Sondheim’s "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd"and Gershwin’s "Summertime." The Chorus has a number of fine soloists: Sopranos- Pamela Moutinho, Meghan Powers, Trudy Vella, Trisha Ruby and Martha Cirata; Tenors- Tom Acord and Tom Rinne; Basses- Mike Holley and Steve Thompson. A wide range of other musical pieces completed the program.
We wish to thank our sponsors for their contributions , especially our local merchants. Cabona’s, Jordan’s Mercantile, Isabella O’s, Jackass Ridge and Donna’s Stitchery provided the beautiful gowns, tuxedos and accessories for our directors, narrator and soloists!
Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus was founded in the Spring of 2002 and has become an arts icon in the community, performing for the schools, at various community events and giving fifteen seasonal concerts in the North Tahoe/Truckee region. The organization is truly a community Chorus with its sixty members representing a cross-section of highly gifted students and townspeople of various occupations and profes-sions. The group shares a love and respect for fine choral music and a willingness to experience a wide range of musical styles. The mission of the organization is to promote vocal music and the arts in the schools and community and to provide an outlet for the performance of the members.
Since the inception of the Chorus, Sierra College has graciously provided the funds for salaries, music sup-plies and equipment, as well as a beautiful rehearsal space for the Chorus on the new Truckee campus. With the budget constraints the college is experiencing, the Chorus finds itself with a shortfall, having only part of the instructional costs and rehearsal space covered. We are asking the members of the Chorus for financial help, but additional support from patrons in the community is key to the survival of the Chorus. Therefore, we are asking for assistance from community organizations and individuals who value the Chorus and the music we represent. Thank you for your donation.
